Schools, fools and cellphones
In Georgia, a high school junior gets a 10-day suspension for refusing to end a cell phone call to his mother who is a soldier in Iraq.(Full Story)
UPDATE 5:50pm - camedwards.com posted the official statement by the school district... The student's 10-day suspension has also been shortened to 3 days.
The BIG SIN: School staff wouldn't let the student answer the phone when the mom tried to call back! Michelle Malkin suggests that "Smoother "conversating" between the student and administration might have led to a better resolution." Here's MY TAKE: This was a CRITICAL cell call for this kid. He should have been allowed to get up and leave the room, whatever, and be given the opportunity to offer a full explanation LATER.
A lot of kids depend on cell phones to coordinate plans with their Moms & Dads. They use their cellphones to get rides home from after-school activities, and to keep parents informed of their whereabouts. Students should be allowed to keep their phones with them on school property, but with the understanding that unless it is a bona fide EMERGENCY, they won't be chatting during school hours. Indeed, many schools have policies that cell phones may be carried, but must not be seen nor heard during school hours.MORE LUNACY: In Florida, a woman says she was fired from her job with the Florida Marlins after bringing her daughter to work on national Bring Your Child To Work Day...
