Propaganda California

Seems there is a wacko trend emerging where film directors are telling people that their movies have other intentions and implications than what you might think you're seeing when you go to the movies.

Read THIS ARTICLE and then try the tactic yourself at home. Grab a few of your favorite movies on VHS or DVD and pretend you're the director and try to make the characters represent concepts, people, governments and situations other than what they really are.

It's obvious the faults lie not within the movies themselves, but with the wacko directors making the films. I rather doubt that they began these pictures with such politically-ridiculous intentions! And isn't the latest STAR WARS movie the PREQUEL to the FIRST in the series?

Here is an excerpt from the LA Times story linked above:
"Did we need George Lucas implying that his latest "Star Wars" film is intended as an anti-Bush parable about the Iraq war, in which America plays the evil empire? (I thought the movie was an artistic success, but Lucas' comments spoiled my enjoyment and kept me from repeated viewings.)

Did we need to hear from "War of the Worlds" screenwriter David Koepp that the aliens in his movie are stand-ins for the U.S military and the innocent Americans they attack are stand-ins for Iraqi civilians? Or that Americans are guilty of post-9/11 anti-Muslim "paranoia"? (A question to Koepp: Were we "paranoid" after Pearl Harbor too?)"

I look at this way... if Tom Cruise wants to froth at the mouth over Scientology, who cares? If the directors want to come up with a bunch of secret-meaning crap for the ir pictures, let's laugh them off too.

Hollywood has always needed a monitor, whether it was that film board that cleaned up Betty Boop's act or the National Legion of Decency, or anti-Communist hearings or whatever. Maybe it is time the US Government creates a new National Film Board to keep an eye on the stars. With Judith Miller behind bars, maybe the time is right!
