Sympathy

The Blogosphere and the Muhammad Cartooons: Bloggers are discussing the widespread outrage in the Islamic world about cartoons that were recently republished in several European newspapers. The comics were originally published in the Jyllands-Posten, a Danish newspaper. There have been threats of violence against those publishing the cartoons and boycotts of Danish products by Muslims who consider the cartoons and production of images of the Prophet Mohammed to be blasphemous.

Duh! The cartoons aren't clever, and certainly not funny. What if "they" were making a mockery of YOUR religion?

If you attack someone's belief sysytem, attack their religion, make fun of their culture and traditions, what would you expect them to do? How would like them to react? They'll either get very very mad or YOU will have to squelch them down, same way the United States kept Native Americans in check and held Africans captive, regarding them as sub-human slaves. Don't get me wrong: I'm all for free speech and freedom of expression. I love honey but I don't go out of my to poke at a beehive when I see one. I think Michelle Malkin and others don't realize, don't understand how deeply these cartoons hurt Muslims and others who appreciate the religious values of Islam.

In case you still don't get it: it's about RESPECT.

Background, links to the cartoons and other material H E R E !

Good one CRP. No sarcasm intended with the acronym.

People tend to forget whilst intoxicated with their ability to express themselves that the said ability to express oneself ought not to be confused with the quality of one's expression. The freedom of speech ought to advance thought and critique and one ought not to seek refuge in critique alone as a validation of the sanctity of the freedom of speech.

Hmm, so peace-loving muslims are respectful of other religions huh? So calling for the destruction of Israel's ok? putting bombs round your belly and getting on a bus and blowing the shit out of women, kids who might be of the same persuasion is ok?

Carrying Placards calling for the death of anyone who doesn't call Islam a peace-loving religion is ok?

Get Real!

Oh you peace-loving Muslims, respecters of other religions and creeds how you must have missed films like Last Temptation of Christ, where Christian film-makers made a film suggesting that Jesus had a dream whilst on the Cross that he wished he'd had a relationship with Mary Magdalene. There were protests outside cinemas and film distribution companies. AFAIK, there were no flags burned, embassies stormed, and nowhere near as many death threats as those peace-loving muslims have made in recent days.

And as for the publication of The DaVinci Code, and the forthcoming film.. not too many flag burnings noted so far..

As they say in 'Life of Brian' (gee, another film mocking Christianity) Always look on the Bright Side of Life!
