Good Ol' Mister (and Missus) Wilson!
Valerie Plame Wilson and her husband, Joseph C. Wilson, filed suit on Thursday against Vice President Dick Cheney, Cheney's former top aide and the senior presidential adviser Karl Rove, charging they had conspired to violate their constitutional rights. Here we go. Yet another diversion to eat up valuable time on the evening news! The Wilsons are apparently hell-bent on being part of our "media neighborhood" but they have some stiff competition today in the MSM with Israel vs. Lebanon and the rising price of oil.
Anyway, the lawsuit accused Cheney, Rove and the former Cheney aide, I. Lewis Libby Jr., of conspiring to destroy Valerie Wilson's career by leaking her identity as an undercover CIA operative to the press. It said the three men conspired to punish Wilson for his public assertions that the Bush administration had twisted intelligence to justify the invasion of Iraq.
The civil lawsuit, which does not specify any amount of damages being sought, is the latest chapter in a complicated legal and political saga that began when Valerie Wilson's name first appeared publicly (as Valerie Plame) in a column by Robert Novak on July 14, 2003. The fallout from that disclosure led to an investigation by a special prosecutor into whether the leak violated any laws and whether the name was leaked as part of a campaign to punish Joseph Wilson for his criticism of the White House.
fishbowlDC is on the case... and I see Michelle Malkin also nipping at the Wilson heels...
