Warblogging V: The Stand?
Here's what the beach looks like today in Lebanon. Click on the picture to see more. "Fuel oil from the Jiyyeh power plant that was hit by Israel has been pouring into the sea, spreading along the Lebanese coast all the way up to the north, As-Safir reported today. Olmert: Hezbollah to Learn the Hard Way.
Rattle, Rattle: Hear the Saber! The world is one big happy battlefield, so says Al-Qaeda's #2 man: In a clip aired by al-Jazeera that appears to have been shot at a professional broadcast facility, Ayman al-Zawahiri says the group will not stand by as Israel continues to pound Lebanon and the Palestinians. al-Z calls on Muslims to fight back in a tape. Zawahiri doesn't say exactly what al-Qaeda's response will be.
I don't think this was really in the Al-Qaeda gamebook: they usually patiently plan and meticulously execute their acts of terror. My guess is they feel they can make a statement and insure their credibility by jumping into the Israel-Lebanon conflict. Moving into uncharted territory like this, the best they can probably do is push some planned attacks up on the al-qalendar. (Don't know if there are any 'planned' attacks left here in the US, after news leaked that authorities uncovered and stopped a few, which mean there are likely more thwarted attacks that we were never told about.)
via Michelle Malkin: The NY Sun reports this morning that Kofi Annan's smear against Israel is threatening to "unravel."
