Friday: The Rain & The Blogosphere
Fresh flowers lie at the edge of a driveway on Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, leading to a single family home where a father and three children died in a Wednesday night fire in Hoosick, N.Y. Fire officials said the blaze broke out shortly before 11 p.m. in a two-story home on a rural road outside the village of Hoosick Falls, about 25 miles northeast of Albany. (AP Photo/ Jim McKnight)The Friday morning rain is bringing welcome relief to many affected by the heat wave. I awakened refreshed and ready for the new day, and mourn those who are not here to see it.
It is distressing to realize one has "lived" and experienced a wide variety of things, while others, much younger and with much promise, have perished. About 160 rockets were fired at Israel on Thursday and about 100 during a 30 minute period.
Yes, the War rages on... the Israel-Lebanon conflcit continues, with Israel enduring an especially bloody day... Bloggers on both "sides" have been busy:
"It's important to bear in mind that while the world may call Israel's reaction OTT, the following were already in place long before Israel crossed the border..."
Charles Krauthammer's column in the Washington Post should be read and re-read by Israel's leaders and supporters and by anyone who cares about the US - Israel relationship. The Olmert government does not understand what is at stake in Lebanon, and by refusing to take off the gloves and go all out against Hezbullah, it risks jeopardizing Israel's special relationship with the United States.
The only thing that the U.S.-Israel will be giving birth to anytime soon is hatred and violence.
Iraq is a mess... "In a joint press conference testifying at the senate hearing, the generals are saying a civil war might be erupting in Iraq...This might be exactly what Bush wanted, chaos and modern day colonization played upon the argument that these countries could not control their own people (Cuba would be next just watch)."
Religion too...
"First Mel Gibson does an Ezra Pound and broadcasts (albeit drunk and via one cop) his wild-eyed anti-Semitism; now, another major American celebrity has raised the stakes (as it were) and gone and done an anti-Gibson - crucifying the crucifixion, to mock the most profound symbol (or reality) of the Christina Faith - and Rome is damned if it's going to let that go uncondemned." (The Passion of The Madonna)
Pat Robertson now believes in Global Warming and is no longer blaming it on the wrath of God (Blessed be Al Gore)... The Albany Eye blogs Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" is playing at Hathaway's Drive-In in North Hoosick. Hoosick made national news last night with the sad story of the Decatur family. Brian Decatur was a large, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling "man's man," who cherished his children... (.:mOrE:.)
And there is MORE war (in other places)...
Ethiopia’s bloggers are watching their country’s southern border with Somalia as rumblings of renewed conflict surface. The growing tension got extremely minimal coverage in the MSM , too busy with Lebanon and Iraq. Bloggers scrambled to get the word out:
My Heart’s in Accra: Some background on the likely forthcoming conflict in Somalia.
Ethiopundit offers a well-written summation: Meles’s Not So Excellent Adventure
Redeem Ethiopia explores religious "faultline" it sees opening up in Thuggish Governance
Urael sees parallels with Lebanon in ‘I told you so’: "There is a striking similarity between Israel’s invasion in Lebanon and Ethiopia’s invasion in Somalia."
